Black Women United is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education, protection, and advancement of Black women. Black Women United (BWU) was founded in 2017 by a diverse group of young, passionate, and determined Black women. After the Women's March in 2017, Founder Imani Mitchell reached out to five women to create an event that would address the lack of intersectionality in the Women's March and find a space to uplift and center Black women. After a month of quick planning and hard work, they created an unprecedented event: the first Black Women's March in Sacramento, California.
